The West Africa and Conflict Sensitivity Programmes are excited to share the newly published report from the event “Les Jardins des Synergies pour la Paix”, which took place in February 2025 in Porto-Novo, Benin.
The event brought together members of the West and Central Africa CSC Hubs and the West Africa Consultants’ Network, “Cercle de Gaynaako.” Over five days, participants from across humanitarian, development, peacebuilding, environmental, and educational sectors engaged in rich dialogue exploring cross-sectoral approaches to conflict sensitivity in West and Central Africa. The gathering also reflected on the identity and direction of the regional Hub, building on insights from national Hubs.
The report captures:
– How conflict sensitivity can act as a catalyst for collective action, encouraging collaboration and alignment among diverse actors working toward peacebuilding and conflict prevention goals, including through CSC-Hubs.
– How conflict sensitivity is operationalised across different sectors, including key opportunities and mechanisms for its integration into policies, programmes, and practices.
– Key organisational entry points for embedding conflict sensitivity, illustrated through examples of how various actors have institutionalised it in their structures, strategies, and day-to-day operations.
At the heart of the report is “Lenses of Practice: Conflict Sensitivity in Key Sectors,” developed from a series of deep-dive discussions across eight thematic areas:
– Environmental protection, biodiversity conservation & climate change
– Management of natural resources (land & water)
– Humanitarian action and development
– Human rights and justice
– Conflict-sensitive information, media and communication
– The role of religious leaders and spirituality in conflict prevention and management
– Intergenerational dynamics and conflict sensitivity approaches
– Conflict sensitivity in the eye of the storm (heightened crisis situations)
