SOS Civisme Niger

Founded in 1999, the NGO Savoir, Oser, Solidariser pour le Civisme au Niger (SOS-Civisme-Niger) has the overall objective of “promoting sustainable development through civic education, a culture of peace, and the strengthening of grassroots democracy.” During our call for proposals in 2018, SOS-Civisme Niger was selected on the basis of:

Its unique position in the field of citizenship training and the promotion of multi-stakeholder dialogue for the concerted and peaceful management of problems (interreligious, intercommunal, and political dialogue, in particular).
Its involvement in different regions, including some of the most unstable parts of Niger.

Our support

In order to strengthen its accountability to its members, the communities it serves, its project staff, the government, and donors, the NGO SOS Civisme-Niger has embarked on a process of organizational development. The first phase of our support enabled it to increase its visibility by redesigning its website and adopting an appropriate management policy, including in the areas of finance and accounting, logistics, human resources, and cross-cutting issues such as gender mainstreaming. A second phase of support focused on a participatory process to develop the new 2022-2025 strategic plan, with a vision extending to 2030. With the involvement of key stakeholders, SOS-Civisme conducted a participatory review of the strategic plan in order to develop an operational plan and indicators of change that would enable better capitalization on the achievements of SOS-Civisme Niger.

Results

The organizational development process has enabled SOS Civisme to position itself within the Nigerien ecosystem as a leading NGO in the areas of civic education, security and peace, as well as decentralization and local development. Thanks to its increased visibility and new strategic plan, the NGO has become more visible to stakeholders. This has resulted in a sharp increase in demand from national and international partners, who now approach SOS Civisme-Niger either to respond to a series of calls for tenders, to participate in the formulation and management of joint programs and projects, or simply to take part in numerous online or face-to-face activities on the themes of citizenship, democracy, the rule of law, peacebuilding, conflict prevention and peaceful conflict management, climate change, etc.
